Welcome Back To Hockey! |
| November 25, 2005 |
Okay, yeah, I confess - I have been really lazy about updating this site. The lcokout sure didn't help me any, along with my nature tendency to be lazy, forgetful, and a procrastinator. But I'm taking some time today, this day after Thanksgiving, to update the site with some new polls. I'm always up for suggestions for new polls so do write me and keep me moving!
There are new rules this year, rules that were tested out in the AHL last year. With these new rules comes more scoring and more penalties. My thoughts on this are that I like some of the new rules (thank god they still have touch up icing!) but wish that the refs would let the guys police themselves more. Do we really need to fine the coach if a guy gets into a fight at the end of a game?
Basketball has always displeased me because they (whoever they are) swear that it's a physical sport yet whenever any player breathes on another player the wrong way a foul is called. Hockey's turning into basketball with all the power plays that get called. But I think it may calm down after awhile, at least I hope it does.
Also, I'm not into the shoot out thing. You're going to play end to end for an hour and decide the game on a shootout? What's wrong with admitting a draw once in awhile, at least during the regular season? I, for one, don't need to see goals scored all the time to be entertained.
I like baseball games that are pitchers' duels.
I like a good fought hockey game that's ends in 1 - 0.
Am I the rule or the exception?
Hockey's back, anyway, so why am I complaining? Hockey's back, baby! I'm excited and I can't wait until I get cable TV back so I can move beyond the radio! Woohoo!
Say, I'm in a fantasy league this year, my first time ever. I've never done any fantasy league, for any sport, but have always been curious. I didn't know if I had the patience for it. Actually, before the days of the Internet made it easy, I would never have been able to keep up. I remember years ago when my brother would follow the stats in Monday's paper, trying to see how he did in his football league. I could never do that, especially every day!
But, alas, Yahoo has a nice little setup (I haven't tried other leagues) and I've found myself enjoying it a lot. It's not nearly as much work as I thought it might be. And it helps I'm in first place right now. A shout out to the folks in my league!
I have to get back to listening to the Flyers game now. Go vote in the new polls!

Phantoms Win the Calder Cup! |
| June 11, 2005 |
As good as the Chicago Wolves were this season, they never stood a chance against the Purple Reign. I, personally, think that marketing tagline is kinda cheesy but I guess I gotta admit that the Phantoms are the Reigning Calder Cup Champions for the second time in their history!
The last title was won in the Spectrum on June 10th, 1998, against the St. John Flames. That was 7 years to the day that the Phantoms took the Cup this time around. I knew of the fact before the game, and saw it as an omen.
Me and my girlfriend have been attending the games regularly this year, mostly since there was no NHL to see. It was only fitting that we got to see the end of it all in Philly, with 20,101 other screaming fans. An AHL playoff attendance record, and second all time for an AHL game. In fact, the average attendance for the Calder Cup Finals was over 12,000 people per game. That was for only 4 games! I have to say that the AHL couldn't have had two better hockey towns representing in the finals. It actually showed that there are still folks below the 48th Parallel that are still into the Greatest Game on Ice!
To this day, I can't recall why I didn't attend game 6 of the finals back in '98. I watched it on TV, with Gene Hart, the Voice of the Flyers, doing the play by play. But it was good to hear Gene Hart call another win before he passed on.
South Philly was jumping last night, with the Phantoms win and the Phillies winning next door. It's worth noting that they are really pulling in fans right now with their current hot streak and the overall euphoria in the sports complex was only higher because of the way the Phils have been playing of late, in my honest opinion.
There's a celebration planned for Monday at the Wach-Ov Center at 6:30 and me and Bea are gonna be there. Join us to celebrate the Phantoms and hockey in Philly! |

Superbowl!! |
| January 24, 2005 |
Okay, so this isn't Flyers related and, hell, it isn't even hockey related. But the Eagles have made it to the Superbowl! I'm not even sure if Superbowl is supposed to be one or two words but I don't care!
I plan on going over to my friend's house and watching the game there with his family and my girlfriend. Wings, Guinness, fireplace, kids running around like maniacs, the works. Maybe I'll create a special Eagles poll on here. I can do that because it's my site. Hockey isn't even here this year, save for the Phantoms, so why can't I put up Eagles stuff here?
I was but in 4th grade the last time the Birds made it this far. Little did I know that the next chance to see the Eagles play in the Superbowl would be 2005 when I was 33 years old. My god, it's insane. At least the Phils and Flyers made the big games after they won last. The Eagles, well, they just haven't even been there since their last time, their only time, when it was a loss. Mind you, they had their share of championships pre-Superbowl but the time is nigh for them to win this thing.
Fly, Eagles, fly!
On the road to victory!
Fly, Eagles, fly!
Score a touchdown, 1-2-3!
Hit 'em low, hit 'em high!
And watch those Eagles fly!
Fly, Eagles, fly!
On the road to victory!
E-A-G-L-E-S
EAGLES!!!!!

LOCKOUT! |
| September 22, 2004 |
Yes, friends, it has happened. We all knew it was going to happen. The NHL has locked the players out. No one reports, no one plays. People on two sides will continue to get together and agree only that they disagree on the issues at hand. Will we see any NHL hockey in the near future?
I, for one, want to see hockey back soon. Yes, I know football season is here and I live in the U.S. but I happen to be one of those Statesiders that love hockey and I will gladly welcome it back with open arms when it comes back. And I will go crazy - out of my mind! - waiting for the return of the coolest game on ice.
When baseball went away back in 1994, it took me awhile to get back into it but hockey is different for me. These are trying times, my friends. Trying times.
Now, the good thing about this whole mess is that it seems likely that hockey stands a chance of being revamped a bit once it returns. I would love to see some changes in the sport, but which changes I will actually see come about is a different story. What would I like to see? Here's a list of some stuff I can think of:
- Less teams. Plain and simple. The sport is expanding too quickly, with the NHL putting in new teams into new markets, expecting the fans to come later. You build it and they will come. Well, I am happy with hockey only being given to those who want it. Don't sell it to the public or the TV stations. Just let it do its thing, even it goes back to what it was like when I was growing up in the 70s and early 80s, when it was easiest to watch hockey on TV if you either had cable or a team in your town. It doesn't have to bring in the same number of viewers here as it does up in the Great White North.
With less teams, there will be more divisional games, too. Right now, rivalries are dying out and the games aren't as fun to watch during the regular season because the schedules are watered down with pointless games with pointless teams. Bah! More divisional games! Better hockey that way and more people will watch and come out to the games.
- Stop messing with tradition, Bettman! Put the playoffs back the way they were, when the best team played the worst, regardless of what conference they were in. God, it was neat seeing 2 teams that were bitter division rivals going at it in the finals! And put the names back on the conferences and divisions! Patrick Division, Wales Conference, etc. Bettman turned the NHL into the NBA. It's time to turn it back.
- Pay those players less. Bring ticket prices down. Maybe shorten the season a tad. No doubt the players are in the wrong here. If they see the light and take less percentages of the money then we will see better hockey.
Time to start looking into the new WHA and the AHL as aternatives. They won't literally or figuratively be in the same league as the NHL but they will have to do for the time being. I only hope the time being is not an eternity.

Wear Your Orange! |
| May 13, 2004 |
So, if we're supposed to wear our orange to the games, why are the Flyers so obsessed with turning the jerseys black? Gee, can't wear your home jersey to the home game because HOME JERSEYS AREN'T ORANGE ANYMORE!
It almost makes me cry with joy that the black jersey thing is coming back to bite them in the ass a little. Cry with me. Tears of joy. Yes. |

The Playoffs Are Here!! |
| April 10, 2004 |
Wow, this year's playoffs look to be very exciting, indeed. The first round is filled chock full of matchups that should prove, and are proving, to be great to watch.
First of all, the Flyers and the Devils are facing each other in the first round for the first time since the Devils were the Rockies. These guys always put on a good series! Go Flyers!
The battle of Ontario rages on as Toronto and Ottawa take each other on for yet another match. Again, it's a treat that we see these two teams go at it in the very first round!
Bruins / Canadiens? First round? Holy shit! The classic, storied rivalry comes at us once more. In a world full of constant expansion teams being added to the league, we don't get to see the original 6 go at each other much anymore. Montreal may be down as of this writing, but they aren't out of it.
And, hey, since we're still talking Eastern Conference right now, that Tampa Bay / Islanders series should be a good one to watch, as well. I'm calling an upset on that one. After all, the number one seed in the East has to bow out early sometime. Might as well be first round like it often is!
Over in the West we have two more Canadian teams duking it out in the Vancouver / Calgary series. BC vs. Alberta! Who will win? Calgary has had Vancouver's number in the season series but Vancouver are the favorites. One to watch.
Colorado and Dallas are going at it, though it appears at first glance that Dallas hasn't shown up yet. Kudos to Chris Therien for scoring that occasional playoff goal, though! If Dallas gets their act together, this series can go a surprising 7 games.
Detroit vs. Nashville is just time / space filler. And, from what I hear, so is San Jose vs. St. Louis. There's still time, though. Perhaps those guys will get more interesting to watch in the next few games.
All in all, some very good teams are going to be lost in the first round. And we will lose at least 2 Canadian teams right off the bat. No matter, as round 2 looks to be great, as well, regardless of who wins the first round games.
With a threatened lockout next year, this could be the last bit of hockey we get to watch for another year. It's good to see that it is the pinnacle of excitement! |

Playoffs Are Coming! |
| March 27, 2004 |
I can smell the Stanley Cup Playoffs coming and the smell is great!
Speaking of the Cup, I just did a 9 day tour of Canada with my band, Famous in Vegas, and while I was there me and my guitar player, Mikehanna, visited the Hall of Fame. We touched the Stanley Cup and took our pictures with it! Ah, the beauty. I strongly recommend a visit to Toronto and the Hall to any hockey fan. Hell, just visit Toronto because it's a beautiful city. And it's filled with lots of really nice people (even if they do like the Leafs. Hehe.
Time to start gearing up your hockey pools and waving bye bye to the teams that have early tee times at the golf course. This is where the big boys get to play! |

Trades, Trades, and More Trades |
| February 20, 2004 |
Well, I just don't know what to say. I had a problem with the Flyers getting Jeff Hackett and now he's retired. So what do the Flyers do? Trade away a forward (whom they were all excited about just weeks ago) for Sean Burke. I went to the game against Boston last night and was dismayed that the Flyers could have won or tied that game if it wasn't for Burke giving up a couple soft goals.
14 goals in 3 games.
Jeez.
And what was wrong with Vandermeer? Too much of a prospect, as usual, I guess. Trade the young talent away in the late Winter for an older guy because you swear it'll get you into the playoffs and parading down Broad Street with a Cup in June. That's Clarke's mentallity, anyway. And I'm tired of it.
That's really all I have to say right now. Ugh. |

Justin Williams Traded |
| January 25, 2004 |
Things are crazy in Chester Springs right now, you can surely bet. What kinds of vulgarities are being screamed out by Christy M. right now? For those not in the know, one Christy M. from Chester Springs, PA took a bunch of the polls on the site and spoke of her allegiance to Willy in each of the comment boxes. I quote the lass:
"Justin Williams is my favorite player of all time! Go Willy!!"
She also said that she thought that Clarkie should stay, in the Bob Clarke Stay or Go poll. It's okay to come back and place a different vote, Christy. We know how you feel about Clarkie now, it's okay to let it all out.
So, yeah. We just keep sending Flyers to the Hurricanes. Used to be that Tampa was the Flyers unofficial minor league club, with all the folks they sent down there but it looks like Carolina has since taken up that moniker now.
Got any more hard working forwards you don't want around anymore? Send 'em south. We don't have any room for hard working forwards around these parts!
Yeah, can you tell I'm upset? |

Goodbye To The Tugger |
| January 6, 2004 |
Sigh. Today's a sad day. Tug McGraw's lost his battle with cancer. He seemed to be doing fine and I think we all thought he was on the mend but, alas, he's no longer with us. Cancer's an icky thing. There oughta be a law against it.
I've actually been thinking a bit lately, about making this site more of a fund raiser, at least when it comes to voting for the main poll. I'm thinking, since I failed at getting a booth set up at the Flyers Wives Carnival, that I should consider trying to achieve something online. I'm thinking that if I can get corporate sponsors to make donations every time someone votes on their preferred jersey color that this site can raise some money to fight cancer.
I'm not sure I get enough people in here to make much of a dent in cancer research, but maybe if I tweaked it a bit and made it mean more of something then people would stop by and vote more often.
Luckily, my experience with cancer was a brief one. I got the best kind to get, if there is such a thing you could say of cancer. I am doing well, with no signs of having anymore of it in me. Some day, not too long from now, they'll call me cured.
But for now, I get this nagging feeling I feel like doing a little something to help. I'm not sure why, as it's not in my nature to actually care about things that matter most to the majority of the people out there. But I have a means here to do something and I'm getting close to getting the ball rolling. I'll have to sleep on this one.
The Tugger's left the ballpark. Last one out of the Vet, please shut the lights out. |

Damn, These Black Jerseys! |
| November 17, 2003 |
Oh, come on! This is getting ridiculous! First the Flyers get black third jerseys and now the Eagles have them? What's next, the Eagles make the black jerseys the regular home jerseys and the green ones get canned?
I AM GETTING TIRED OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAMS COMING OUT WITH UGLY BLACK JERSEYS!
It's bandwagon and it's just so typical. It's a marketing ploy. We have games being broadcast in high definition television (HDTV) and displayed on 60 something inches of flat, 6x9 ratio plasma screen tvs but when we turn the game on everything's in black and white. That makes a whole lotta sense, doesn't it?
Shame on the Eagles management for doing what the Flyers management did by coming out with lame black jerseys to try to look cool, when they are just looking like every other damn team in the league by doing so, shedding their chosen colors. Shame. |

The New Season's Here! |
| October 11, 2003 |
The NHL, for some reason unbeknownst to me, has decided to mimic the NFL and suit up the home teams with the dark jerseys and the away teams with the light jerseys. What is the logic behind this?
Now, this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I hate the black jerseys, mind you. Even if the Flyers were still wearing the old school orange ones, the ones I love so much, I'd still think it wasn't the appropriate way to go. The home team should be wearing the light colors.
At my next convenience (who am I kidding, whenever I get around to it) I will have to update the site and replace all instinces of the words "away" or "road" with "home," when talking about a jersey. Sheesh.
I'll put up a new poll asking you all your opinion on the matter. After all, that's what this site is here for, right? |

The New Season Approaches |
| September 6, 2003 |
I'm not sure what all to write here except that I'm waiting for hockey season to arrive any day now. Pre-season is just around the corner. I've been so busy with the bands, the Altar Boy musical, and the Altruist movie that I haven't had time to look into our prospects of winning a Cup this year.
As usual, I go into the season not remembering who was traded away during the Summer, who was let go, who was signed, and who was acquired. One thing I do know for certain this year - we have Buddy Hackett in goal. No, wait, Buddy Hackett passed away this year. We have Jeff Hackett. He's not as funny but the thought of him as our number one is rather humorous.
Actually, the number one spot is up for grabs. Will it be Esche or Hackett? Do either of them have what it takes to be a playoff goalie?
I'm still bitter over some trades - McGillis, Brindy, Lindros....
Just kidding about that last one, folks. Yes, I miss McGillis' bone crunching hits. Yes, I miss Brindy's work ethic. But no, I don't miss that other fella.
Let's just sit back and watch it all unfold. Another season is upon us. I have lots of beer to buy in order to get through this one.

Congrats to Ron Ryan! |
| June 13, 2003 |
He was once the veep, now he's the prez! Judging from my brief time I spent talking to him, I'd say Ron Ryan is gonna fit in nicely in the President position for the Flyers.
Since he's going to be taking over day to day operations of our favorite hockey team, maybe Bob Clarke will have better use of his time deciding on those trades. We can only hope that less work for Clarkie means good stuff all around for everyone, eh!
Now, that's bring that Cup down south on the Turnpike next year! I'm tired of waiting! |

Site Updates |
| June 1, 2003 |
Check out the new site! Due to my constant desire to mess around with things and the desire to get everyone's opinion on everything else, I have updated the site so that you can now come in and vote on all sorts of issues, not just the Flyers road jersey color.
Also, the new Trade-Off game is nearly complete. I'd say it's around 90% of the way done.
First, the new polls section:
It's pretty self explanatory, really. You can vote on all sorts of stuff now. If you have any ideas for a new poll, just click on the contact link in the menu on the left and send us a suggestion. Anything having to do with the Flyers or hockey in general will be considered.
And spread the word, because I think it's nice to have a place where everyone can come and voice their opinion on Flyers stuff. And, when the time of year is right, drop by and play the new Trade-Off game.
Trade-Off is sort of a pool. During the month of January, you pick which players you think are going to be traded during the last two weeks in the season before the trade deadline kicks in. Extra piints are garnered by picking which team you think they'll be traded to, for which player, and on what date. Bonuses are awarded for getting certain combinations of categories correct, as well as which coach you think will be fired first at the conclusion of the season. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It is!
The site also has a slightly different look to it, as you may have noticed. The menu has changed in design again, only slightly this time. And the top of the page has some new links and things to click on, for easier navigation.
As usual, if you have any suggestions regarding how I can continue to make this site enjoyable to come to, just drop a line on the contact page. I'd be happy to hear from you!

Another Early Summer |
| May 7, 2003 |
I'm deflated, as I usually get around this time of year. Another early exit for the Orange and Black. Was this past season better than the last few, where the Flyers went out in the first round? Yes, it was. But, still, Philly is forced to settle for less than the best.
What I want to know is, why do the Flyers have so much trouble with Ottawa? Actually, Jersey has its share of problems beating the Sens, as well. Remember that year the Devils were ranked number 1 and the Senators were the 8th seed and they knocked the Devils out in the first round? Wasn't that '97, when the Flyers made it to the finals and got swept? They probably only made it there because Ottawa had dispensed Jersey early. Jeez, I think it all happened that year.
Anyway, I hope Jersey has a time of it getting through the Senators, too. Not that I want the Sens to win, but I just despise Jersey so much. Even though I can't stand the Western teams and how the media talks them up to be better than the East all the time I would rather see Vancouver win it all. There's really nothing to hate about Vancouver. Besides, I like Canada and can't stand how the U.S. is stealing all the teams from them. Any time a team south of the Mason-Dixon line wins the Cup an angel is murdered in heaven or something. I swear.
I guess we can toast the fact that the Flyers had an awesome first round series and they made it to the second round for the first time in, oh, what seems like forever. And here's to hoping they can find a steady goalie who knows when to let his equipment stay on the ice if he's dropped it or, at least until the puck has cleared the zone.
I guess now that I have all this free time on my hands I can speed up my revisions to the site. As of this update, the new polls section of the site is mostly, if not completely, done. I am working on polishing up and debugging the new Trade-Off game right now. Very soon I will have the updates done and this latest site revamp will be complete.
There are still other features yet to come but they will be worked in when I have the time. I can promise that it will be more fun to stop in here when you see the new add ons!
Have any ideas of your own? Stop by the contact page and drop me a line. I'm always open to comments.
Um, go Canucks. Yeah. Whatever. Anybody but the Ducks. |

The Man with No Name |
| May 7, 2003 |
As promised, here's an update on the guy I want to sponsor for next year's Wing Bowl.
There's been no development whatsoever. In fact, I haven't even thought up of a cool name for the guy yet. I suppose it would be a good idea to start testing his eating skills. I have to buy him some big ol' burgers to start him off on his road to utter gluttony and, um, sloth? Is it sloth? I'm not up on my biblical sins. A lot of good 15 years of Catholic school did me, eh?
Stay tuned for further updates or non-updates. These things take time. And lots of stomach room. And a couple bucks in the pocket don't hurt much, either.
Fill out the contact form on the contact page if you know what sloth means. I'm too lazy to look it up. And I'm unconsciously lazy in not being able to remember what it means. Stay tuned next week as we covet our neighbor's food! |

More Changes In Store |
| March 8, 2003 |
Folks, I am still in the process of updating the ol' site with new and improved features. These features will add a lot of fun and content to the site, other than the main poll.
For instance, I am looking to add more polls relating to the Flyers and hockey in general that people can vote on. These won't be the usual 'vote and check results' polls, though. These polls will resemble the jersey issue poll, in that people will be able to tell their name and location, as well as a few comments. Maybe this site can be sort of a one stop for Flyers opinions and what people are thinking about.
Also, there are plans in the works of implementing an online game of sorts, sort of a fantasy game during the month prior to the trading deadline. People will be able to pick players and teams that will be involved in the intense trading that goes on that time of year, along with dates that the trades will take place.
Also, I want to implement a discussion forum on here where folks can go and chit chat.
Annnnnd, I'm looking to sponsor a guy to try to get him in Wing Bowl next year. That is still in the preliminary stages, though. I'll keep ya posted.
That's what's on the slate for now. Hopefully, I find the energy and time to get it all accomplished! Wish me luck!

They're Not As Red As I Once Thought |
| December 19, 2002 |
Due to some sort of good luck that found it's way into my life, I was blessed with the ability to attend 2 Flyers games recently, and both for free! Free is just about the only way I can afford to see a game nowadays. I can afford to sit in the rafters but why spend 40 bucks to sit higher than the 3rd level equivalent in the old Spectrum? It's just not right, I tell you.
Before I rant about ticket prices and overpaid pro athletes, let me get to the gist of the matter - I saw the Flyers / Rangers game, where the Flyers won on the penalty shot in OT, and the next game they played versus the Blues.
The Rangers game was an ESPN deal so the Flyers were wearing the new scrubs. I must say, that if you see these shirts in person that is the only way the color will be respectable. On TV and in photos they are too red. Of course, no matter how you look at them, they are still butt ugly.
I'm not talking 20 something college girl gone wild caught on video ugly, because those butts are anything but ugly, but plumber's butt ugly.
I now let you resume your regularly, or irregularly, scheduled web browsing. Go look for those college girl pics on the net or something.

Mike a guest on LeafsTV! |
| November 29, 2002 |
Today, during the last 5 minutes of the second intermission of the Flyers/Leafs game, I had the pleasure of being a special phone in guest on LeafsTV. I had fun doing it and I hope everyone who was tuning in and watching was amused in any sort of way.
We talked about everything from the jersey issues in the NHL to the firing of Bill Barber and the hiring of Coach Hitchcock to my thoughts on who should get traded next to the Phantoms to my playing in 2 bands to my honest opinion on those damn third jerseys. It was an enlightening interview, I hope. I hate to whine for nothing. And I do enjoy whining about things.
Basically, I whined most of the time. Yes, to anyone who watched and heard me, I apologize for all the whining but now you know how my friends feel when they hang around with me for prolonged periods of time.
My thanks to the folks at LeafsTV for having me on and to all that tuned in, I hope I didn't bore you too much! |

The Last Word On Updates (for now)... |
| November 29, 2002 |
Or, should I say, coding and designing keep mind off of the Flyers inability to score and the organization's desire to sew together ugly garments.
There isn't much to say here that hasn't been said somewhere else on the site. Updates are occurring, as you can tell, and I like the new design. If anyone has any other ideas then feel free to contact me and let me know about them!

Okay, There WILL Be Site Updates Soon! |
| November 25, 2002 |
I've realized that I'm not as lazy as I once thought because I have already started working on some ideas to spritz up the site. The time for heresay, speculation, and conjecture is over!
I've got Photoshop and Textpad ready and there are changes in store, yes, Sir. What am I working on, you ask? Let me list the ideas in the works:
- The main page is going to get a slight makeover
- Some graphics are going to change or be added
- I'm going to work on getting some merchandise, mainly shirts, available for purchase
- I want to put up a discussion board
- I want to update the links section and add some more
- I want to make up a Flyers uniform history page
Feel free to go to the contact page and let me know what you think of these ideas or if you have any of your own. |

Lack of Site Updates |
| November 21, 2002 |
Yes, I have been a bit lax in updating the site lately. I hate to not have anything new here to say but, as you might have read in some of my other news updates, there hasn't been much information coming my way from anywhere other than heresay, speculation, and conjecture. As for other updates, there have been plans on my end to spritz up the site a little but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I guess you can say that being the drummer in two bands, having a day job, and combating cancer have taken some of my time up lately. Oh, and I'm a wee bit lazy. I'll come up with something, though. I promise. I just ain't putting any timetable up or anything. But I got the cancer beat so I'll be around for awhile. That said, I guess that the answer to "When am I going to spritz up the site?" might be heresay, speculation, and, you guessed it, conjecture! |

New New Jersey Update |
| November 21, 2002 |
Might we all be asking why the Flyers are remaining mum on this new third jersey issue? I know I am. Due to an apparent change in personnel in the front office, I haven't been receiving any info on the new jersey. The only information I have is coming from emails from you folks and those damn teaser ads on TV during the commercial breaks during the games. You know those ads, "Coming November 29th!"
I guess that means we'll be seeing them at 1pm on Friday the 29th when the Flyers play those pesky Leafs.
Are the Flyers being teases on purpose? Do they mean to be cryptic and clandestine with their dispatching of information? Whatever is going on, I wish I knew. But, hey, I'll put the picture of the new jersey on here when it becomes available. I'll be right clicking and "Saving As" faster than Brashear is gonna lay out Domi on Friday. I hope he doesn't get too much blood on his new jersey. Hehe.
I'm a poor bloke, but you can bet I'm gonna be a sucker and buy one of those new jerseys. I'll buy one just because. Just because.
Hey, I went to the game on Halloween! My friend had tickets! And I got to wear my ORANGE Brindy jersey! I saw one other orange jersey in the crowd, and I was looking. Where are the orange supporters? Make sure you wear your new third jerseys so we can show the true team colors again, won't you?
Do I sound long winded? Maybe it's the way I haven't been able to get any info from the Flyers that has me antsy. Maybe it's that you guys haven't had any luck, either. Wot's the 411, we're all asking? Stay tuned on November 29th and we'll all the answers, my friends. But, no matter what this new fangled jersey looks like, I still say the old school orange jersey rocks my world. Pumpkin, shmumpkin! |

New Third Jersey Update |
| June 22, 2002 |
Well, as we all know, the new third jersey design will feature the familiar orange color but the design itself will differ from the old jersey. What this new design looks like is not known at the moment. A select few know what this puppy looks like, and I ain't one of 'em.
I thought it would be a nice idea to put the new design up on the site so people could vote on that, as well. Maybe I could put up the different ideas that were being tossed around by the Flyers so the public could vote on their preferred design, to kind of make up for the fact that the switch from orange to black was never put out for vote. This was not to be.
I contacted the Flyers with the idea, only to find out that a new design had already been chosen and approved by Ed Snider and the NHL. The design itself cannot be revealed until the Fall because of NHL regulations. Bah!
All I can say is, when the new design comes out I will feature it here, not that it will do much good. I had really hoped that we, the fans, would have been able to have some input into the decision on how the new jersey would look.
Some of you have expressed desire in changing the current logo around a bit for a fresh update. Perhaps this jersey will be your thing. Maybe they've mucked with the logo, who knows? I, personally, prefer to have the logo remain unchanged. Am I stuck in the past? No. I just think it looks fine the way it is. And I also think the changes the Flyers should be making do not involve the uniforms. And they certainly do not involve getting rid of Brian Boucher or Ruslan Fedotenko.
Before this news item turns into a rant, I should wrap it up. Maybe I should make another part of this site that has to do with the current state of the team. We all know that things are pretty screwed up right now, with the Flyers making feable attempts at success in the post season. Top that off with constant personnel changes that try to lay blame where it is not due and you have a bit of a quagmire.
Keep voting for those jersey colors and spread the word about Black2Orange.com! |

Jersey Auction Nets Over $67,000! |
| November 12, 2001 |
The Orange Halloween Jersey Auction ended on November 11th and the Flyers raised $67,947 for the Twin Towers Fund! Couple that with the $120,000 raised after the Flyers' first home preseason game on September 20 vs. the New York Rangers and you have a pretty nice sum of money.
The Flyers matched $2 for every $1 donated by the fans attending that preseason game and there was also an auction of game-used jerseys and sticks from it, as well.
So the Flyers and their fans have raised nearly $190,000 dollars to benefit the victims and families of those affected on September 11th, 2001. Lets hear a round of applause for everyone who helped out in this endeavour! |

Special Orange Jersey Auction! |
| October 28, 2001 |

Here is the official press release issued by the Flyers a couple days ago. I'd have had it up here that day but I've been quite busy of late. Sorry, folks!

FLYERS ARE DRESSING UP FOR HALLOWEEN TO BENEFIT TWIN TOWERS FUND
Team to unretire orange road jersey for game on October 31 to benefit Twin Towers Fund.
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they will be wearing their traditional orange road jersey for the team's regular season home game vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, October 31. These game-worn jerseys will be autographed and then auctioned on-line with the proceeds going to the Twin Towers Fund. The orange jersey, which was traditionally worn for Flyers road games, was retired prior to the start of this season and replaced by the Flyers' black jersey. This orange jersey will only be worn for this occasion.
To make a bid on a jersey, those interested should log onto www.philadelphiaflyers.com or www.NHL.com, starting Wednesday, October 31, at 6:00 p.m. The bidding will close on Sunday, November 11, at 6:00 p.m. The orange jersey will incorporate three different patches, representing the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) and the American Flag.
Earlier this season, the Flyers, through the generosity of their fans, players and ownership, donated $120,000 to the Twin Towers Fund. The $120,000 donation represented the monies collected after the Flyers matched $2 for every $1 donated by fans attending the Flyers' first home preseason game, vs. the New York Rangers on September 20, and the monies raised through the auction of game-used jerseys and sticks from that game.
