--- The Story Behind black2orange.com ---
The Philadelphia Flyers hockey team used to wear white jerseys at home and orange jerseys while on the road. They also wore an alternate "third jersey" for 20 games during each season.
I had found out while watching a game on national TV towards the end of the 2000-2001 season that the orange sweaters that had become the staple of the Flyers were to be going the way of the Edsel after that season was complete. Well, sort of. They came be back in the 2002-2003 season, demoted, albeit with a slightly different look, as the third jersey.Originally my plan was to launch a full scale blitz of letters and such to the local papers, radio stations - hell, the whole media around here, about this issue. I was irate over the loss of the orange jerseys. I read the statement issued by the Flyers on their website, written by Ron Ryan, Executive VP of the Flyers. I decided he was the man to write my first letter to.
Mr. Ryan was kind enough to get back to me on the matter (quite promptly, I might add) and I had a little conversation with him on the phone. He reiterated what he'd written on the website and even acknowledged that maybe they didn't look into the decision as deeply as they should have two years ago.
So I decided, since my letter was responded to so nicely and the Flyers were aware of my thoughts and opinions, that I'd go for a slightly different approach to this website. No longer was it to be a crusade to bring back the orange sweaters full time but it was to be a mere poll - here to ask folks what they think of the matter so everyone can truly say which jersey is favored by the general public.
Even though this is the case, I still decided to call the site black2orange.com. So it's still a little biased!
The Philadelphia Flyers have a class organization, that is a given. Those in and out of the hockey community know how well they run their ship. Therefore, I was not surprised to have such luck in meeting with understanding and generosity when I addressed my concerns to them. None the less, I must thank them for their professionism in this matter. Just go to the thanks page for more in depth thanking. The gist of this page is simple - you vote for your favorite home jersey color in the poll to the right.
Your full name is optional. City and state are required fields only because it's situated so that you can view the results by different categories, such as city, state, month, and year. There's no reason for this. I just want to see when the most people vote and where they tend to live. Statistics are fun that way. But this is no formal poll. It's mostly in fun. And above all, it's mostly to satisfy my need to know what everyone else is thinking.
Enjoy it for what it's worth. If you have any thoughts or questions, toss us a line. |
